A fair thing to ask before you hand something your whole life. So here's the plain answer, no legalese, no diagram to decode, for where every piece actually goes. Short version: it stays yours, nothing here watches you, and none of it is ever sold.
your memory lives on Maren's own server
Your facts, journal, notes, photos and voice memos are kept on Maren's own servers, never handed to a data broker, never mined for ads, never sold. Not now, not as some "future direction."
The memory record is encrypted where it's stored, and your photos and audio are encrypted on top of that, so a stolen drive is just noise. Maren's server can read your memory to answer you (the one exception, below), but no one who walks off with the hardware can.
Reading the words off a photo, and the search that finds "that Italian place" when you typed "restaurant," both run on Maren's own machines, never a third-party vision or search service.
Any memory is one tap from being seen, corrected, or removed, and a permanent delete destroys the actual bytes, not just the mention of it.
your voice never leaves your device
Turning a voice memo into text happens inside the app. The recording itself is never uploaded, to us or to anyone.
When Maren reads a reply out loud, that voice is made on your device too. No cloud transcription, no cloud voice, ever.
the one time your words go to an outside AI
To answer you in chat, and to file what it learned as memory, your message and the few snippets of memory needed for that reply are sent to the AI provider that runs the model. This is the only place your words leave Maren's walls.
They're sent for one purpose, to answer you, under terms that forbid using your words to train any AI model. Never sold, never turned into an ad profile.
The model is a swappable part: we can change or upgrade it without touching a single one of your memories.
Nothing it files is hidden. Every remembered fact shows where it came from, and you can correct or delete any of it: deletion is real deletion.
and if your connection drops
Writing something down never needs a signal. Capturing a thought, and reading or editing anything you've already saved, all work offline, and a dropped connection never loses a capture. It waits, and files itself the moment you're back.
